Day Of The Doctor

I met Alex Kingston, I had looked forward to meeting her for MONTHS.
I wanted terribly to tell her how much River Song had inspired me, how amazing she was and how encouraging her role in Doctor Who was to me.
I begged all weekend to wait in line even if it was just for a chance to say hello, I spent the last of my money to get her autograph, because a photo was more money than I had.
I waited in line for awhile, but I was so excited that it didn't feel like too long.
I got to the table, eagerly awaiting my turn.
Her agent took my book and passed it down the Alex, and I followed it. Before I had a chance to speak or say a word, she had carelessly scribbled her name and slid the book down the table, she didn't even glance up, didn't even seem to notice or care that any of us were there. I looked over at Billie Piper who I had also wanted desperately to see, her line was three times longer, she was talking to a fan, dealt with them just as quickly as Alex had dealt with me, only she was paying attention, acknowledging her fans. I wished I had spent my money to see her instead... Except what I really wished was that Alex had been more attentive, or at least smiled or said hello, any of those things.
I cried afterwards, I wasn't sure if it was because I felt like I had been let down or if it was because I had gotten an autograph from her.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Colin Baker's booth, it was much smaller than Alex's and Billie's and where they had booths that were higher up and off the ground, his was more like a small table with a small floored platform behind it.
I glanced behind me at Billie 's line, at her fans happily hopping down from her booth.
I looked to Alex again, taking a picture with a fan where she smiled just long enough for the flash and sent them on thier way without even seeing if thier photo turned out.
And then I looked, again, to Colin Baker's booth, there was no line, no one seemed to realize or care that he was at the convention, or maybe they didn't know who he was?
Patrick offered to pay for me to see him.
I wasn't sure it was a good idea.
I walked away.
I came back.
I walked away again.
I circled around.
I came back.
Colin was gone, but there was a man in his booth, so I timidly approached him.
I looked more closely, wondering if I had missed my chance.
The man smiled broadly at me, motioned for me to come a little closer, and asked what he could do for me.
I asked nervously if Colin would be back.
The man laughed and said he was Colin.
I told him that couldn't be possible.
Slightly taken aback the man asked me why it wasn't possible and feeling a little more confident I gave his the most mischievous grin I could muster.
I motioned to the poster behind him, a large colorful image of Colin Baker's as the sixth Doctor staring proudly out into the rafters.
"Well sir you haven't got a noble enough brow."
The man gasped exaggeratedly, making offended hand gestures.
"I'm going to tell him you said that! I'll tell him no autograph for you!" It was obvious he was teasing.
We asked when Colin would be back and he told us.
We came back around just as Colin was getting comfortable again. He was looking at the long lines for Alex and Billie and then his gaze sort of drifted out over the convention and his eyebrows sort of scrunched up for a moment and then his eyes landed on us and I sort of froze.
His eyebrows shot up in surprise and his whole face sort of lit up in a way that made me wonder if any other fans had noticed him sitting there.
Patrick nudged me forward.
The man from before pointed at me and all but shouted. "That's the one!"
I hesitantly smiled, "she said I couldn't be you"
Colin asked why, a grin spreading across his face.
"He doesn't have a noble enough brow..." I said, a little nervous.
His eyes sort of sparkled, like Dumbledore's do when he's telling Harry something secret, and the Colin turned back to his agent and said "she's right you know?"
And just like that my faith in humanity was restored.
I showed Colin my book, he asked me about my cosplay, we chatted a little, he signed my book.
He asked me who had signed it earlier and I told him Alex had.
He sort of scoffed and said her signature was small and that she should sign it again, but he said it in a very sixth Doctor sort of way. In that "she didn't sign it very nobly did she?" Sort of haughty tone and it was really funny, he made me laugh, and I left feeling very happy and satisfied not because of the signature but because I had met both Colin Baker AND the sixth incarnation of the Doctor...
