For You
I don't have a history of poems
written about happy days
because happiness is fleeting
and the sadness seems to stay
but I've noticed I don't write as much
now that you're around
and though I'm used to writing sadness
lately I have found
that I want to write a poem
about the times I've spent with you
and the times you've made me happy
with all the little things you do
and lately I've been trying hard
to come up with the words
to tell you what you mean to me
and it may sound absurd
but you're the sunlight in my garden
and the rain drops on the roof
and even on my saddest days
to me you're living proof
that happiness can linger too
and stay a little while
No matter how the sadness stings
you numb it with your smile.
